Back from the Neurosurgeon and yet again, just for a change, we have been given news we didn't expect.

Dr. Knuckey and Dr. Kermode (The consultant I saw last week) have spoken at length this week (We get the feeling they are not in agreement about it all) and Dr. Knuckey has decided to do the VP shunt surgery and then see if my neck pain and everything settles down, which he is expecting it won't, and then do the surgery for the Chiari 1 malformation.

I am struggling with it a little, I know in the long run it is probably the best idea, especially considering Dr. Kn thinks the neck pain is C1M related not BIH, but I had just got used to the idea of not needing the C1M surgery and now it has reared it's head again. Meh, that's life I guess right?!

He also gave me a quote on how much it will cost, we don't have private health insurance so we have a choice of going public but Dr. K won't do the surgery, he will just supervise and then the follow up would be with Sir Charles Gardener rather than with Dr. K or we can go private and most of the cost is straight out of our own pocket. We didn't have any clue how much it would cost but had budgeted most of our saving on it but were really shocked (And pleased! LOL) to find out it is not too bad at all, under $2000 for Dr. Knuckeys bill, hospital stay is free and we are waiting to hear back on the cost of the shunt but the receptionist thinks it will be around $1000. Which works out well, at least that makes the decision easy on which way to go and it save our saving being touched so if the other surgery does go ahead we still have plenty left for it. Learn from this though, GET HEALTH INSURANCE NOW!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, don't think you are young and healthy and not likely to get sick because you just never know and it comes and bites you in the ass if you do get something unexpected.

Anyways, the little ones are whining for dinner so must run..... not even going to mention the photos :P
