Neuro appointment update

Just quickly this morning while the kids are getting ready for school, will be back later for a better update...

Went to the Neurology consultant yesterday and it went really well. He is a really nice doctor, explained everything (Finally, a doctor who tells us things!!! Yay!!!) and we now have a better idea of what is happening and where we will be heading.

Basically, he thinks I am asymptomatic as far as the Chiari 1 Malformation goes and the big problem is the BIH. There is a few different options on how to treat it but two are most likely not going to work a) because the BIH is too bad and b) because of the C1M so he thinks a shunt in the top of my head is the way to go. He is going to think it through on the weekend and take it to a meeting of his colleges (sp?) on Monday because as he said "I think my idea is best but they might come up with something I haven't thought of". He will then give me a call to let me know where we go from here.

So, it is a better result than we had been expecting, the shunt operation is less complicated and less risky than the C1M operation and if it happens soon it means I can go of the Diamox (Another HUGE Huzzah!!!)

Speaking of the Diamox, he was quite shocked to learn I have been on the highest dose possible right from the start,. normally they wean you on starting with 1/2 a tablet a day and work up to 4 and I went straight to 4, which he said I must be a very strong person any one weaker would have been throwing up with the first tablet and feeling like death for a long time. Now I am on the highest dose and have been for so long already it is not worth dropping back down since I am almost used to them and he would just have to up them again anyway since anything less would do nothing (I get very minimal results from the highest dose as it is is). So the side effects will be staying a while longer but at least I can see a tiny light at the end of this tunnel now :)

So, all in all a good result all things considered! Have to run to get the kidlets sorted but will be back with some pictures later :)
