2009 in Reflection

This time two years ago I did this survey and in my aimless wandering this afternoon (I haven't napped if you can't tell! LOL) I have been reading my old posts and came across it and it seemed like a good idea to fill it out again with new answers :)

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before? Had brain surgery, took care of my health better.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't do New year's Resolutions, I always resolve to live well, laugh often and be as good as I can be and have succeeded pretty well this year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, there was something in the water this year! LOL Jo, Steve's sister gave birth to her first child, Kaitlyn, in September. She is the only one "close" to me, Nayd's friend Adele also had her first baby, Caleb, in November.

4. Did anyone close to you die? Yes, Steve's great Nonna and his step-grandfather :(

5. What countries did you visit? America :D

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009? Harmony and peace.

7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? November 4th, 2009. That was the day I got my shunt put in.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Making it to the end of the year in one piece!

9. What was your biggest failure? My memory and my body, it makes me sad knowing I have months of time this year that I can not remember, nothing I do is jogging my memory and I feel like I ahve missed out on so much.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?Yes, too much! LOL I got diagnosed with benign Intercranial hypertension in September and then Arnold Chiari Malformation in October, Chronic Anemia in December and a possible stomach ulcer. Plus, tendinitis, an elongated C7 vertebrae and...I am sure there is something else, I just can't think what!

11. What was the best thing you bought? Our tickets to America, the trip was definitely the highlight fo the year and well worth the money we spent on it.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? All of the kids have been amazing this year. Jessie has started learning the Violin (As well as still doing the Flute) is in level 7 at swimming lessons and was awarded the English Award for her class this year :D Hamish has excelled at the drums and did really well in his first year at Rugby and is reading at a Year 2 level. Makenzie is growing into a little girl, she sleeps through the night...sometimes...she dances and sings and keeps everyone smiling. All three children handled my illnesses really well and have taken all the hospital trips and doctors visits in their stride and are rolling with the punches.
Steve also deserves celebration for still being here, I know it hasn't been easy for him to sit by and watch me fall apart. I have lost so much this year and it has been hard on everyone but most of all on him because he has had to be the strong one when he is so used to me being the glue that holds the family together.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? No one that I can think of, I am very duck like these days, it all slides off my back and I don't give it another thought after the moment it happens so if anyone has been appalling this year I have forgotten it as soon as it has happened :)

14. Where did most of your money go?  America and Doctors/Meds/Surgery pretty much...although the left over has been very happily deposited into the bank of Gymbo! LOL

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The lead-up to our trip was an exciting time and going to Disneyland was definitely a highlight.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007? While I've Still Got The Time by Darius Rucker

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? About even I think but slightly on the happier side. I think this year has been a real year of growing up, I fell so much more stable than I did last year, I know where I am going and who I am and although I am still not well and have lots of hurdles to jump I am doing it with a clear view of why.
b) thinner or fatter?Thinner, one of the bonuses of all this sickness is I have lost weight! Not masses, around 8kg but it is better than nothing :)
c) richer or poorer? Probably a little richer, not totally sure though, I can't remember where we were sitting last year at this time.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Laughing

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Sleeping

20. How did you spend Christmas? MMMMMM, Sizzler :D Went to Sizzler for Christmas lunch then spent Boxing Day at Jo's house with Steve's family :)

21. Did you fall in love in 2007? Not any more than I was before but I do love stronger now.

22. What was your favorite TV program? True Blood probably.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? No, I think I am at peace with those that I don't talk to any more and I know there is no point hating anyone because it only hurts me in the end.

24.What was the best book you read? Oh, definitely the Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris I would say. I have read some fantastic books this year but those ones sticks out. Oh, also Goodnight Beautiful by Dorothy Koomson

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Sugarland and Darius Rucker are about even i would say. I used to listen to Darius Rucker when he was part of Hootie and the Blowfish and I was so sad when the stopped bringing out songs so it was so exciting to hear his new stuff on his first solo album. Sugarland have been on the Country Music Channel (The default channel when no one is watching TV in our house) for a few year but this year they have bought out a few songs that have really caught my attention. I am such a sucker these days, I can't listen to any of their albums without crying at at least one of their songs!

26. What did you want and get? A new camera. I loved my Konika Minolta 5D so when the focus started going (Oh, good reminder, i still need to put it in to get it fixed!) it was logical to upgrade and the Sony A700 (Sony took over KM last year or the year before) is a beautiful camera, it makes it easy for me to take 1000 photos in a day!

27. What did you want and not get? Another baby. I had planned on being pregnant again by now, in my picture perfect life without sickness or operations I would have been so fingers crossed by this time next year I get the nod to try.

28. What was your favorite film of this year? Totally unexpectedly, I watched Hancock last week and absolutely loved it. I liked the new Harry Potter but Hancock was the fave for the year.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 29 and it is one of those times I can't remember :( It sucks to have such huge holes!!!

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Not being sick, I know I sound like a broken record but it really has tipped our world on it's head.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009? LOL This question made me laugh last time and it makes me laugh even more this year! If it was comfy and floaty I probably loved it this year!

32. What kept you sane?Nothing, this year has been so crazy I am amazed I made it out alive I think it would be greedy to get out sane too! LOL

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?  No one really, I am not really into fancying celebrities :)

34. What political issue stirred you the most? Definitely Barack Obama becoming President.

35. Who did you miss? My friends I think. It has been a lonely time being sick.

36. Who was the best new person you met? Not new as such but it is so good to have Chelle back in my life. She is everything I have needed in the last few months and it is so nice to have her around again.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009. What will be, will be. Nothing I do or say is ever going to change other people so just be the best me I can be and the rest will sort itself out.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year It would be a tie between

"It won't be like this for long
One day we'll look back laughing
at the week we bought her home
This phase is gunna fly by
So baby hold on
It won't be like this for long"

and

"you gotta live to learn
you gotta crash and burn
you gotta make some stances
and take some chances
you gotta live and love
and take all life has to give
you gotta live and learn
so you can learn to live"

both by Darius Rucker (See how much I love him this year! LOL)

And that is the end of the story...
